Art as an act of care

People often begin Art Therapy sessions with an expectation of what their images are going to look like, or with the idea that I might judge what they make as good or bad. But when we start to tune into the feeling of making the art, and reduce the importance on what the final thing will look like, we open up space for curiosity, play, rest, soothing, emotional release and so much more.

Then, creativity becomes an act of care (for ourselves, as well as for others), rather than another product that does or doesn't meet made up beauty standards. (Can you tell I'm passionate about this stuff?!)
